Demolition work is underway on the Detroit side of the Ambassador Bridge.

Bridge owners say they have started tearing down ramp structures in order to comply with court orders related to the Gateway Project.

"The court has issued orders. Whether we agree with those orders or not, we are going to follow them," said Mathew Moroun, son of bridge owner Matty Moroun. "Whether we have an opinion that those orders are outside of the contract, we are going to follow them."

The bridge company has also appointed a committee, consisting mostly of outsiders, to direct all future construction on the Gateway Project.

"The committee and not the Morouns will make all future decisions. This will include the selection of engineers, the selection of lawyers, the selection of construction or reconstruction or deconstruction companies," said David Domina, the lawyer representing Matty Moroun.

Later Thursday, the bridge company's president, Dan Stamper, and Matthew Moroun, who will be representing his father, will be back before the judge who threw Stamped and the elder Moroun in jail for contempt last month.

The Michigan Court of Appeals freed the duo the next day.

The appeals court ruled Monday that Judge Prentis Edwards had the right to jail Matty Moroun and Stamper, but he needed to specify what steps they had to follow to gain release. That's what Edwards is expected to do Thursday.
