James Schlegel, of Schlegel Holdings Inc., said his company is set to begin construction of a long-term care facility at St. Clair College by the end of March.
The latest hurdle for the project, originally planned for the site of the former Grace Hospital and then a plot of land in LaSalle, was cleared with a vote by Windsor city council earlier this week.
City council agreed to sell a woodlot to the college, which gave up land to accommodate the care facility.
"I'm very pleased and admittedly greatly relieved council voted in favour of the woodlot being transferred to St. Clair College, which was a key issue to be resolved to allow this project to move forward," Schlegel said.
Schlegel said construction should start in just a few weeks.
The new 256-bed facility is supposed to be finished by January 2014.
"We would be starting construction the end of March and we are, indeed, on target to be able to meet that commitment," Schlegel said.
