Tow truck driver Paul Rochleau, who was struck and killed Wednesday, had completed a one-day safety course. (CBC News)A tow truck operator struck and killed by a passing car while he was changing a tire had only been on the job for three months.
Paul Rocheleau, 49, was hit Tuesday while in the median of Highway 3, near the Windsor Crossing outlet mall.
Sandwich West Towing manager Jeff Kwiatkowski said Rocheleau had completed a one-day, basic safety training course.
Rocheleau also spent several days learning to use the truck.
The company, based in LaSalle, tows for CAA. Kwiatkowski said his drivers follow CAA safety standards, which he called "the highest standards there are."
A 63-year-old London man was charged with careless driving. The maximum penalty for a conviction is a $2,000 fine and/or six months in jail.
OPP spokesperson Sgt. Rick Tonial said the police are filing a report to the Ministry of Labour, but the ministry itself is not investigating the incident.
