The historic Walkerville Brewery in Windsor should be producing beer again this spring.

Chris Ryan and Mike Brkovich are reviving the business, which went bankrupt five years ago.

The brewery was founded by Hiram Walker in the 1880s.

Ryan says they have the original recipes. They will rely on some university students to help with marketing and web design.

"I'll be 50 this year, and Mike's just a little over 50, so sometimes you lose touch with that market and these kids today have so much energy, and they have that IT knowledge that I don't have and Mike doesn't have," Ryan said. "So it's a whole new way of tapping into a market that we might not think [like]."

Ryan believes the time to revive the business is right.

"Craft brews in Ontario and around North America are really starting to grow, so I think we're hitting the market at the right time. I don't think it's peaked yet," he said. "I think that we can do some different beers, and reach some different palates out there. So it's going to be a lot of fun to experiment and it's the beer business, so it has to be fun, it has to be sexy."

It's also going to have a different name. The pair plan to re-name the brewery but haven't settled on a name just yet.
