Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty promises to clean up the dilapidated Grace Hospital site if his Liberals are re-elected Oct. 6.

McGuinty made the promise Friday during a tour of the CS Wind manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ont.

McGuinty called cleanup a "guarantee."

The site is a west-end eyesore that was to be the site of a new long-term care facility.

"My understanding is that work will begin shortly," McGuinty said. "I understand it's a real eyesore."

Earlier this month, the CBC was the first to report the province and RBJ Schlegel Holdings Inc. will instead build the facility in LaSalle, across from the Vollmer Recreational Complex.

The province pulled the 256-bed project from developer Lou Vozza in June when the project failed to meet government deadlines for financing the construction.

"It's taken longer than anybody wanted," McGuinty said.
