A new urgent care clinic is coming to downtown Windsor, Ont., the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association and Wilsondale Assets Management said at a news conference on Tuesday morning.

The move is supposed to alleviate long emergency room waits at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital, and improve access to health care for downtown residents.

The Nexus Medical and Urgent Care Clinic, located north of Wyandotte at 500 Ouellette, will also have family doctors, specialists, and an on-site pharmacy, in addition to the emergency care services.

The urgent care clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The building is owned by Wilsondale Assets Management, but the clinic is run by Nexus.

The facility will also work with the New Canadian Centre to cater to new immigrants and the centre will provide translation services for patients.

Nexus developer Greg Chew said after the downtown clinic is open in July of this year, he plans to open another in Leamington, then Belle River, and then another two in Windsor.

Nexus's Ouellette clinic will have 10 or more new doctors accepting new patients, according to a press release on Tuesday. The release also stated that all patient records, including lab reports will be recorded electronically.

Nexus Health Management is based in Niagara Falls, and runs similar facilities there as well as in Fort Erie. A release issued Tuesday said the company has agressive expansion plans for southwestern Ontario, western Canada, and the United States.
