The 56-year-old woman who died in a car crash with a police cruiser Monday night has been identified as Nancy Theoret.

Theoret was from Windsor and a grandmother of five, said Theoret's daughter, Stacey Wilson.

She also volunteered for Windsor Goodfellows, a local charity, and enjoyed playing bingo and darts, according to an online tribute.

Theoret was a passenger in a car driven by 58-year-old Debbie Stein when it was hit from the side by a police cruiser at the corner of Langlois Avenue and Wyandotte Street just after 8 p.m.

The two women were transported to Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital. Theoret was later pronounced dead, while Stein remains in hospital in stable condition.

Wilson says she wants a thorough investigation of the collision.

Police are remaining tight-lipped about the incident, saying they're "bound by law not to release any information" about it as agents with the Ontario Special Investigations Unit look into it.

"My hands are tied," said Sgt. Brett Corey of the Windsor Police Service.

Residents who live near the corner of Langlois Avenue and Wyandotte Street say Monday night's accident is a reminder that that intersection could do with a stoplight.

"All the children, especially from around here, cross over here to go to Bagley School," Kosal Chea told CBC News. "Most of them, they don't cross with a parent."
