Windsor West NDP MP Brian Masse announced Thursday he will seek re-election. (New Democratic Party) Windsor West MP Brian Masse has announced he'll run in the next federal election.
The New Democrat was acclaimed at a nomination meeting Thursday night.
Masse was first elected in a byelection on May 13, 2002.
He won re-election in 2004 and 2006, and in 2008 won 52 per cent of the vote, according to Elections Canada.
But Masse told CBC News he doesn't "take anything for granted, whatsoever."
"Every day I have to re-earn my keep," he said. "For me, it's about bringing new ideas to the table and representing the views here."
Masse serves as the NDP critic for Industry Canada, covering topics like automotive policy and the Canada-U.S. border.
No election has been scheduled, but Masse said his party will "have to be ready" if one is called.
Windsor's second MP is also from the NDP. Joe Comartin has represented the riding of Windsor-Tecumseh since 2000.
