One man in hospital following shooting at Tecumseh and George
Officers, canine units were at the scene
Windsor police said a man was shot outside the McGaffey Pharmacy at 3955 Tecumseh Road East at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and another man was arrested shortly after the incident.
Police blocked off Tecumseh Road East at George Avenue for about an hour, while the police K9 unit, members of the Emergency Services Unit and detectives with the major crimes division combed the area for evidence.
A man who works for the Dominos Pizzeria across the street gave a statement to police. He told CBC News he saw two men fighting outside the pharmacy before the shooting.
Police said the victim was taken to the Met Campus of Windsor Regional Hospital with gun shot wounds and then transferred to the Ouellette Campus.
Staft Sgt. Rob Deluca said police were still gathering information and evidence so he didn't know the condition of the victim or the motive behind the shooting.
He also couldn't comment on the weapon used or whether it had been recovered.
Another witness, Tyler Steen, said he was at his neighbour's house just two doors down from Tecumseh Road when he heard what he thought was a tire popping. He said he thought nothing of it until police showed up at the scene. Then he went to the corner to investigate.
"Shortly after that a gentleman came from behind us, screaming said he just witnessed a guy come right by the pharmacy, right out of there, said he was hunched over holding his stomach with blood. Said it looked like he was shot," said Steen.
Police cordoned off an area of the road in front of a home at 2347 George Avenue where they searched a pickup truck.
Police tape also wound its way around a wide area just south of Tecumseh Road East along Leonard Road just behind the pharmacy.
Police are still investigating.
This is the sole vehicle cordoned off on George, south ofTecumseh. Witnesses tell me they heard what may have sounded like gun shots. pic.twitter.com/0cWyUxXami—@jonathan_pinto
