A police officer in Sarnia, Ont., convicted of assault will remain in police custody after he was re-arrested.

The 39-year-old officer was arrested Monday for violation of bail conditions related to outstanding sexual assault charges.

Those charges were filed by police in Chatham-Kent in November 2009.

The officer, who cannot be named because of a publication ban, had been convicted of assault in a domestic violence case in September of this year, and received a conditional sentence.

He is on unpaid leave pending the court cases and a hearing to answer to Police Service Act charges.

The officer will remain in police custody until a bail hearing on Oct.25.
