Hockey fans can get their fix in Downtown Windsor beginning at noon Friday.
The Windsor Classic street hockey tournament runs through Saturday.
The idea came about after the cancellation of the NHL's Winter Classic, which was to feature the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings at the University of Michigan football stadium in Ann Arbour on New Year's Day.
People participating in the Windsor Classic will represent either the Wings or Leafs. One cumulative score will be kept as games are played over the two-day event.
The event is also a fundraiser for the Downtown Mission.
"We've got some great things planned and we're going to have fun," said Ron Dunn, the city's director of development and community relations.
Riverside Drive West between Ouellette Avenue and Ferry Street will be closed to traffic to allow the Windsor Classic to take place.
