There’s light at the end of the tunnel for drivers and local businesses in South Windsor.
The intersection of Provincial and Cabana roads will re-open at 8 a.m. Friday
For the past five months, the corner of Provincial and Cabana roads has been partially or completely closed, as it was widened to accommodate more traffic.
City engineer Mario Sonego credits the project's early completion to teamwork.
"It's a nice big intersection ... it's going to move traffic quite effectively. So we're quite excited. The contractor got it done a day early," Sonego said. "We had co-operation from our friends at CN, so full credit to the contractor to get it done."
The re-opening will be a welcome relief to local businesses who have had to put up with detours all summer.
"Well, certainly the amount of traffic that's been coming by here has been slowed down for the past six months because of the construction, so it's definitely going to be a great advantage for us to have this back open," said Provincial Chrysler new car manager John Skelton. "We're hoping that it's going to bring some more traffic and some more business for the dealerships."
The cost of the reconstruction project was close to $12 million.
