Until further notice, there will be no Pelee Island ferry service operating from Kingsville.
Those who want to go to Pelee Island this season will only be able to do so from Leamington.
Ferry service from there resumes next week.
"We will be operating out of Leamington only until we have better clearance in Kingsville," said Susan Schrempf, CEO of Owen Sound Transportation Company Ltd., which runs the ferry/. "As you know we did end up running aground last fall while operating out of Kingsville and the conditions there have not changed."
The Jiimaan, which services Pelee Island in Lake Erie, got hung up on a sandbar 60 metres (200 feet) off shore.
More than 30 people spent the night on the ferry until the boat was freed, deemed safe and towed to Leamington.
Schrempf said the Jiimaan will carry large vehicles to the island next Tuesday. It will then be taken out of the water for its five-year inspection. If all goes well, the Jiimaan will be running May 1, as usual.
The smaller Pelee Islander will begin service on March 27 from Leamington.
Last year, the Jiimaan and the Pelee Islander were out of service until mid-May.
