A head-on crash in southwestern Ontario, involving a Chevrolet Blazer and a cyclist, has left one man dead, police say.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the collision occurred on Buis Line in Central Elgin shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say the SUV was heading east, while the cyclist was heading west at the time of the collision.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified the deceased as Alvin Korvemaker, 49, of Aylmer, Ont.

The SUV was being driven by a 17-year-old male from London, Ont. He was taken to hospital as a precaution following the crash, but has since been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
