A city councillor and federal Liberal candidate in Chatham-Kent, Ont., has been charged with forcible confinement, assault and four counts of uttering threats.
Chatham-Kent police arrested Steven Pickard, 40, on Monday afternoon.
Pickard represents Ward 6 in the city of approximately 110,000 located between London and Windsor in southwestern Ontario.
Pickard is also the federal Liberal candidate for Chatham-Kent Essex.
The married father of two daughters is being held in police custody, and was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing Tuesday afternoon.
Police continue to investigate but have not released any other information related to the arrest and charges.
