New contract means fewer employees but Diageo plant remains
Diageo workers in Amherstburg, Ont., have voted 84 per cent in favour of a new three-year contract.
In addition to a $10-million commitment to improve the plant, the company is offering $8 million in buyouts. Workers have until June to decide.
There are currently 92 workers at the plant and 169 on layoff. Those still employed will receive a $1,000 efficiency bonus in November, plus improvements in wages, health benefits and a cost of living allowance will be maintained under the deal.
