Local health unit poorest funded in Ontario
Essex County council wants the province to change the formula for the way it funds health units.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit gets the least money, per capita, in Ontario.
LaSalle Deputy Mayor Mark Carrick is a member of the health unit's board of directors.
"What's happened in the past, we can't really do anything about, but as we continue to move forward, we need to try to make sure that we work with the province to increase the portions that are distributed to Windsor and Essex so that we aren't the lowest," said Carrick.
County council has agreed to pay its share of the health unit's shortfall of about $67,000.
The health unit will now appear before Windsor city council to ask for almost $100,000.
Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos doesn't want to see the health unit appear with a similar request for county council in the future.
