Local celebrities to get makeovers in anti-suicide fundraiser
Spitfires coach Bob Boughner and Olympic boxer Mary Spencer will participate
Four famous Windsorites will help combat youth suicide and bullying by getting makeovers.
It's part of a new fundraiser organized by Windsor's Pride Centre.
The local celebrities include Windsor Spitfires coach Bob Boughner and Olympic boxer Mary Spencer.
Spencer said she is a bit nervous, but happy to contribute to the cause.
"They'll be going into my closet, and pretty much telling me how bad my style is, I'm sure," he said. "You'll see a lot of track suits, a lot of workout gear.
"It'll be exciting. It'll be fun. I can definitely laugh at myself, so that's a good thing."
Spencer added that from her experience in boxing, bullying has no place in the sport.
"When I first began boxing, someone actually came to me, one of my teachers at school said, 'you know Mary is learning how to box because she's going to be beating up kids at school now.'
"I was just like, no it's actually the opposite ... when you learn how to defend yourself you never want to bully people."
The event is scheduled for Sep. 20 at the Devonshire Mall.
