Two people rescued from car roof after vehicle floats into Hillman Marsh

The Kingsville Fire Department provided some cold water rescue equipment and both people were pulled from the car's roof with only minor injuries.

Only minor injuries reported

Two people were rescued from the roof of their car after crashing into Hillman Marsh in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Leamington Fire Services were called out to Mersea Road 2 around 3:35 a.m. and found the vehicle submerged.

"They got out the windows and were on the roof of the vehicle and they still had their phone so they were able to call 911," explained deputy fire chief Mike Bradt.

The Kingsville Fire Department's cold water rescue team used an inflatable boat to pick up both people from the car's roof. The rescued pair had only minor injuries.

Provincial police are continuing to investigate.
