LaSalle police say they should be contacted if people see a coyote or any other aggressive wild animal threatening pets or humans.
In the past year, police have recorded several reports of sightings, according to Coun. Terry Burns.
"They're a very timid animal. It doesn't come very close. But in the last year there have been eight sightings recorded by police," Burns said.
In a report to town council, police said it's extremely rare for coyotes to attack pets or humans.
Still, Burns has other advice:
"Make sure you don't leave dog food or cat food outside and if you see them, stay away from them," Burns said.
Burns said he has seen a coyote near his home.
If officers respond, they will assess the situation and act accordingly.
