University of Windsor women's basketball coach Chantal Vallee has been named to the coaching staff of Brazil's Olympic women's basketball team.

Vallee will keep her job with the Lancers, but also work as an assistant coach for Brazil.

Vallee will travel south for a training camp next week.

"One of the things I would like to do in my life ... I would really like to go to the Olympics. And that's a goal I've always had," Vallee said. "I started to look for different countries that perhaps were looking to hire international staff.  And I thought about the Brazilian team.

"They were very impressed by my resume, and who I am, and they extended the invitation."

Brazil's women's national team is currently ranked 7th in the world.

"Brazil [has] a few WNBA players on their roster. So for me to play with WNBA women it's a whole other level for me," Vallee said. "I'm going there with open eyes, open ears and just as a learner. I really want to learn.

Vallee could stay with the team in Brazil until September.

She will be back in Windsor in time for the next Lancers season, where she has won four consecutive national titles. She was named CIS Women's Basketball Coach of the Year last season 2013-14.

"I think it's going to help me professionally," Vallee said of the Brazil experience. "I think it's going to help the University of Windsor. I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity."
