Humane Society makes it easier to adopt a pet
Organizers say people can pay any amount to adopt an animal nine months or older.
The Windsor-Essex Humane Society wants to make it easier to adopt a pet on Saturday Aug. 24 to Sunday Aug. 25.
It's holding its first "Choose Your Own Adoption Fee" event. Normally, the adoption fees are at least $125.
Executive director Melanie Coulter says people can choose to pay whatever they want to adopt an animal nine months or older.
"Some of the younger ones get adopted very quickly. But some of the older ones ... we've got cats that unfortunately end up here and wait and wait and sometimes a few months and sometimes even a little bit longer. So this kind of promotion hopefully will get some of these guys that have been overlooked a little bit that little extra nudge to get into a new home," said Coulter.
Coulter says all adoptions are still subject to a $30 administration fee.
