Fulvio Valentinis will not seek re-election in the fall municipal election.

The Ward 3 councillor became emotional while making the announcement Friday afternoon at Windsor City Hall.

Mayor Eddie Francis and councillors Ed Sleimann and Ron Jones were by his side.

"It's bittersweet. This is a community. I came here as a four year old. Excuse me I've been part of this community. It's been very good to me. It's been a privilege to be part of it. Am I going to miss it absolutely. But that's not reason for staying on. I think twenty years is a long time," said Valentinis.

He was first elected to council in 1994.

Valentinis said he's most proud of getting pathways installed at Jackson Park.

He will now submit his nomination papers to run for a seat on the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.
