Police are searching for a male suspect after an elderly woman was injured during a robbery. (CBC News)

Windsor police are searching for a man in his 30's after a daytime purse snatching left an elderly woman bloodied in the downtown area. 

Police said a 70-year-old woman was waiting for a bus in the 600 block of Ouellette Ave. when a man approached her and tried to steal her purse. 

The man pulled out a knife and hit the woman in the face with the hand holding the knife, police said. 

The woman suffered a cut to her nose, and was taken to hospital. 

The suspect dropped the purse after a nearby witness pushed him into a wall. 

Police said the man was in his 30s, wearing a black t-shirt and gray cargo pants. He is said to have a short, blondish hair. 

The Major Crime Branch is investigating the incident.
