The new downtown aquatic centre, the main venue for the upcoming International Children's Games, is about to be tested by some local swimmers.

The games get started Aug. 14, but the City of Windsor has invited local athletes to test out the facilities at the new Windsor Family Aquatic Complex this Thursday.

The CBC's Allison Johnson reports there are about 100 tradespeople still putting the finishing touches on the venue, which is located on Pitt Street West between Bruce and Church streets.

Project manager Dan Sadler says if the athletes from the International Children's Games showed up today, the pool would be ready.

The opening ceremonies for the games takes place Aug. 15 at the WFCU Centre in East Windsor.

Organizers have just announced 750 more tickets for that event will be available this Thursday at the WFCU Centre box office.
