Crumbling Assumption Church receives $1.25M donation
A multi-millionaire hopes to save Windsor's historic Assumption Church.
Al Quesnel of Amherstburg is giving $1.25 million to a renovation fund to help restore the heritage-designated church.
"The church is in dire need of repair. It's estimated around $9 million is needed and that work is to take place," said Quesnel. "I think the game plan is over about a five-year period and as you know, Assumption Church is almost 200 years old. It's the second-oldest church in the country."
A meeting will be held with parishioners Tuesday night to gather support to revive the Assumption fundraising campaign.
Quesnel owns 10 fitness clubs across Ontario, including locations in Amherstburg and Kingsville.
