Cleveland man dies while visiting Tecumseh
A 28-year-old Cleveland man died in Tecumseh on Saturday after falling down a steep embankment in the dark.
Police say Victor Wiecek was walking in the 3000 block of Concession 12 when he fell about six metres down the embankment.
Wiecek — who was in town for a wedding — was found face down in about 30-centimetres of water. He had a pulse when he was found but was in serious condition.
He died at Windsor Regional Hospital a short time later. Police do not suspect foul play.
Mayor Gary McNamara says it's a tragic accident.
"He was just walking and didn't see because of the darkness and fell," said McNamara. "It was just a freakish accident and it's unfortunate a visitor from Ohio … Our hearts go out to the family."
