The CAW will extend the strike deadline for workers at Integram Seating in Lakeshore.
The current contract is set to expire Sunday.
Dino Chiodo, of CAW Local 444, said the extension allows for more time to work out a new agreement.
"We think that this is the best position that we can take, determining that we need to bargain a good collective agreement," Chiodo said. "Our members are putting their support behind us - over 90 per cent. So we're going do just that, we're going to make sure we're looking after their interests."
Chiodo said the strike deadline will be extended by a full month. He said it will give the two sides more time to work out a new agreement for the workers.
Approximately 850 people work at Integram. They make seats for the Chrysler minivans built in Windsor, where nearly 5,000 people work.
Any strike at Integram would shut down production of the vehicles.
