A Canadian motorcycle racer has died from injuries suffered in a crash in the United States.

Jesse Phibbs, 21, of Leamington, Ont., near Windsor, was in a coma and never regained consciousness after a crash on Aug. 28.

Phibbs had been taking part in a flat track race in Indianapolis, Ind., when he fell off his machine and was run over by another motorcycle.

He suffered several broken bones and severe head injuries.

He was eventually transferred to a hospital in London, Ont., where he died Tuesday.

A community fundraiser had been scheduled for the Phibbs family this week, but a family friend tells CBC News that will likely be cancelled.
