Approximately 2,300 unionized employees at Caesars Windsor will hold ratification meetings throughout Tuesday.

Unifor Local 444 members will be voting on a tentative agreement reached last Friday morning, right after a strike deadline.

Whether the members ratify the new deal won't be known until sometime late Tuesday night.

Three separate meetings are scheduled throughout the day, with the last one to start at 7 p.m. The ballots will be counted after that.

The Unifor Local 444 bargaining committee is optimistic workers will vote in favour of the tentative deal. If they vote no, president Dino Chiodo says the alternative is to go on strike,  something he says neither side wants.

"All we can do is present it, do what we can to explain that we've worked hard to make sure we could accomplish our task and goal," Chiodo said. "It's ultimately the member that's going to be able to accept or not."

Some of the key issues workers wanted addressed include wages, pensions, benefits, shift hours and contracting out work.

The casino will close its hotel while the ratification meetings are held. The hotel closes at 11 a.m. Tuesday. It's slated to open again at 4 p.m. Wednesday, if employees accept the tentative contract.

Gambling will go on as usual throughout the vote.
