Windsor police have a suspect in custody after an alleged assault and standoff on Pierre Avenue.
Police are investigating an assault in the 600 block of Pierre Avenue.
One victim was sent to hospital and the suspect remained inside the residence for hours after the police arrived on scene.
Police on scene told CBC News that at 8:30 a.m. a woman stumbled into the intersection of Wyandotte Street and Parent Avenue and found police on patrol. Officers said the woman had apparent injuries.
She told police she was assaulted in a residence on Pierre.
The department’s emergency response unit is on scene.
Police are asking people to avoid the area.
“We have established a perimeter and the roadway is closed. The area has been contained,” Windsor police spokesperson Sgt. Matt D’Asti said.
D’Asti couldn’t say whether a weapon was used.
The Windsor Essex Catholic District School board placed nearby St. Michael school into a hold and secure status.
D'Asti said the community can receive updates on the Windsor Police Service's Facebook page and Twitter feed.
"As soon as the area is safe, we'll let people know," D'Asti said.
