Windsor city council has decided to keep the Adie Knox Herman pool open until the end of 2015.

It will cost about $630,000 to run the facility next year.

The pool was expected to close its doors with the arrival of the new aquatic centre.

But seniors who use the pool regularly demanded it say open, collecting thousands of names on a petition.

They claim the new facility does not meet their needs and is often unavailable because of swimming competitions.

The city says with the YMCA closing its pool and with Water World also drained, Adie Knox is needed to help alleviate the long waiting lists for swimming programs.

The situation will be reassessed at the end of next year.
