CBC has learned the University of Windsor has issued lay off notices to nine of its employees.

This includes five workers from the I.T. department, two from public affairs, and two from the alumni office.

Under the current contract, the university has to give two weeks notice.

This does not mean the nine employees lose their jobs right now.

CUPE Local 13-93 will hold a membership meeting next week to discuss alternative proposals to present to the university.

Three hundred members of the local went on strike for about a month last fall before a new agreement was reached and ratified.

The confirmation came from one of the union executives.
