4 HIV victims' lawsuit settled with police, health unit
Four women who were infected with HIV by Carl Leone have settled a lawsuit with the Windsor Police Service and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit.
The terms of the settlement remain confidential and the names of the victims aren't being released.
Sutts, Strosberg LLP, the law firm representing the four women, said in a news release that "the settlement is not an admission of liability."
Leone pleaded guilty to 15 counts of aggravated sexual assault on April 27, 2005.
He was sentenced to serve 18 years in a federal penitentiary.
The law firm have agreed not to make further comment.
The women sued the Windsor Police and Windsor Essex County Health unit because they claim the two organizations didn't disclose Leone's HIV status in a timely fashion.
