3 things to do this weekend in Windsor-Essex
A strawberry festival, an art festival and a walleye fishing derby
It's the first week of June and that means the festival season is shifting into high gear in Windsor and Essex County.
Two local festivals that rank in the top 100 festivals province-wide are happening this weekend.
1. Strawberry Fest
There will be a strawberry eating competition where contestants have their hands tied behind their backs and do their best to finish a plate of berries.
There will also be rides and live entertainment.
The Strawberry Fest started Thursday and continues through the weekend in LaSalle's Gil Maure Park.
2. Art in the Park
Art in the Park has been a Windsor staple for 44 years.
It takes place in Olde Walkerville in Willistead Park, which is also home to Willistead Manor.
Vendors from across Canada will be selling all kinds of arts and crafts, and there will be live music.
Along with the art, there's always plenty of food and beverages to sample.
Art in the Park begins Friday night and runs until Sunday.
The Colchester Walleye Fishing Derby takes place on the weekend.
Fishermen will be taking part in the derby as the walleye (or pickerel as they're also known) are running in huge numbers in Lake Erie right now.
The walleye being caught can be upwards of 30 inches.
The derby takes place out of Colchester harbour with two starting time, either 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The person who reels in the biggest Walleye wins $1,500 dollars.
