2 officers trapped when OPP cruiser rolls over
Officers had been intending to respond to impaired driving report when crash occurred
An Ontario Provincial Police cruiser rolled over Saturday night, after the driver tried to avoid a problem on the road in the Township of Enniskillen.
According to an OPP news release, police received a call about an impaired driver in Oil City, a residential hamlet located within the township.
While an OPP constable and an auxiliary officer were en route to the scene, they came upon “a separate traffic situation,” which required them to react quickly.
The OPP cruiser ended up going into a south-side ditch and rolling over, shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.
The news release says the cruiser had been going westbound along Courtright Line, near Gypsy Flats Road, when the crash occurred.
The constable and the auxiliary officer were trapped inside the rolled-over vehicle. They were later freed, taken to hospital, treated and subsequently released.
The crash left roads in the immediate area closed until about 2 a.m. Sunday. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
