Ottawa firefighters rescued two people from a vehicle that drove into a house and nearly tumbled into its basement Friday afternoon.

Ottawa fire officials said they were called to a home on Ancaster Avenue in the west end around 4:40 p.m.

The vehicle had driven into the house and was hanging over the basement stairs with a collapsed wall on top of it, trapping two people inside.

Firefighters said they hooked chains onto the front and back of the vehicle, then used a winch to stabilize it.

The two people inside were brought out and handed over to paramedics, who said they were “lucky” to only suffer minor injuries.
