Canadiens winger Trent McCleary spoke to reporters for the first time today since an accident which nearly killed him. In January, he took a slap shot to the throat, and was saved by a tracheotomy. He needed surgery to repair his fractured larynx.
He got his voice back 10 days ago, but waited to show off for reporters."I'm Bell Canada's best customer right now. Ever since my voice came back, it's been non-stop. I've just wanted to phone people and talk."
He says it's a pleasure to communicate, instead of writing things on a "stupid piece of paper all the time." He says his fiancee learned to read his lips, and that probably brought them closer. McCleary wants to play again, but that won't happen this season.
