A young man was struck and killed by a GO Train in Toronto on Monday evening.

GO Transit says the incident occurred near Dundas Street West and Sterling Road.

Pedestrian struck, killed by GO Train in Toronto

Toronto police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a GO Train near Dundas Street West and Sterling Road on Monday evening. (CBC)

The train left Union Station at 6:50 p.m. Toronto police Sgt. Sal Granata told reporters that officers were called to the scene about 10 minutes later.

Paramedics say the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who spoke to CBC News said her nephew knew the victim, who she believes is either 16 or 17 years old.

The train was delayed 90 minutes while police investigated.

The coroner has been summoned.

Witnesses told police that some males were in the vicinity of an underpass where the collision occurred.

Granata said the incident remains under investigation. He said that police are reviewing video from on board the GO Train.
