A female York Regional Police officer suffered minor injuries after the cruiser she was driving collided with a pickup truck in Richmond Hill early Monday.
The front end of the cruiser, a Ford Explorer, was damaged in the crash.
Const. Andy Pattenden, spokesperson for York Regional Police, said police received a call about the crash in the intersection of Major MacKenzie Drive West and Bathurst Street at about 4:12 a.m.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The officer was taken to hospital as a precaution, he said.
Pattenden said police are investigating the crash and he declined to say which vehicle hit the other.
The intersection was closed for about two hours while officers investigated but it has since reopened.
Pattenden said major crashes involving York Regional Police cruisers are infrequent.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call York Regional Police.
