Newmarket man charged in GO station sex assault on New Year's Day

York Regional Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a young woman on New Year's Day in Newmarket near the Go Bus terminal.

York Regional Police arrest a 37-year-old man from Newmarket in connection with a sexual assault that took place on New Year's Day near the Newmarket Go Bus terminal.

York Regional Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a young woman on New Year's Day in Newmarket near the Go Bus terminal. 

Police arrested the suspect Thursday night, and he's now been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm. 

Police say a woman was grabbed, forced to the ground, and assaulted by a man who approached her on a pathway parallel to Davis Drive after leaving the terminal around 3 a.m. on Friday, January 1.

The woman suffered minor injuries in the assault and was taken to hospital.

On Monday, Police released a composite sketch of the suspect.  

The 37-year-old Newmarket man will appear at the Newmarket courthouse on January 12.
