Woman, 88, dead after striking vehicle and driving into home
Woman in second vehicle sent to hospital with minor injuries
An 88-year-old woman is dead after she struck a vehicle, hit a curb and drove into a house in west Toronto this morning.
Police were called to 21st Street and Birmingham Street just after 10:30 a.m.
That's in the Lake Shore Boulevard and Kipling Avenue area.
The woman was driving westbound on Birmingham in a Toyota Camry when she struck a Honda CRV, according to police.
"The vehicle then went out of a control, striking a curb on the south side of the street, that went airborne and then struck a house," said Toronto police traffic services officer Const. Clint Stibbe.
Paramedics transported a second woman, who is in her 20s, to hospital with minor injuries.
Joe Costa was working in the area and witnessed the crash.
"Wheels were off the ground. Wow, it's crazy," Costa told reporters at the scene.
"I'm surprised that house is still standing," he said.
Const. Stibbe said investigators are still trying to figure out why the accident happened.
"We will be looking at medical, mechanical, or any other factors that may be involved," said Stibbe.
