A woman from Guelph, Ont., allegedly threatened to kill a police officer who was trying to arrest her for public intoxication last night in Barrie, Ont.

Barrie police say the alleged incident unfolded outside an Allandale variety store shortly before midnight on Saturday.

A patrolling officer spotted some young adults drinking next to the store.

When the officer subsequently attempted to arrest a 24-year-old woman, police say she punched and kicked the officer.

Police allege that during a struggle, the woman “armed herself with a knife."

While being restrained, she “threw the knife” to a nearby male and "directed him to attack the officer," according to police.

Police also allege that the woman "continually threatened to kill the officer as the arrest was completed."

The accused faces charges of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
