What's open and closed on Thanksgiving weekend

Here's a short list of a few Toronto businesses that will be closed — and others that will stay open — this long weekend.

Here is a short list of a few Toronto services and businesses that will be closed — and others that will stay open — this long weekend. If you're looking for something that isn't listed, please check company websites or call ahead. Have a great weekend!


  • TTC buses, subways and streetcars will run on their regular schedules for most of the weekend, but will switch gears on Monday and run on a holiday schedule.
  • Go Transit will run on its usual Saturday schedule and then switch to Sunday service for both Sunday and Monday.

Tourist Attractions

  • The CN Tower, the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum, The Toronto Zoo, Casa Loma, the Bata Shoe Museum, Riverdale Farm and the Hockey Hall of Fame will be open all weekend, including holiday Monday
  • The Art Gallery of Ontario will be closed on Monday
  • Toronto Island Ferries will be running on their fall schedule
  • Toronto's parks and green spaces, including High Park, will be open
  • Businesses in Toronto's five tourist areas are legally allowed to remain open. These areas are Queens Quay West, the Toronto Eaton Centre and the Hudson's Bay Company, the downtown stretch of Yonge Street, parts of Bloor-Yorkville, and the Distillery Historic District

Public service

  • Government offices and public libraries will be closed holiday Monday
  • Post offices will be closed Monday and no mail will be delivered
  • All community centres and indoor pools will be closed on Monday


  • Although most malls will be closed holiday Monday, there are some exceptions. The Eaton Centre, Square One, Vaughan Mills,  and Pacific Mall will remain open.
  • Most supermarkets will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday, but some local stores and select chains (Food Depot, Rabba) may open a few locations with modified hours.
  • Many movie theatres will be open all weekend, including Monday, but you are advised to call ahead — especially for smaller and independent theatres

Alcohol vendors

  • The LCBO and the Beer Store will be closed holiday Monday
  • Some vendors, like the Wine Rack, will open select locations
  • Some breweries — like Amsterdam Brewery and SteamWhistle Brewery — will remain open
