Good afternoon! Toronto has been spared an icy drive home, but freezing rain is expected to hit around dawn Thursday, just in time for the morning commute.

Periods of snow associated with an approaching storm system are expected by early this evening. That snow will change to ice pellets later this evening as the temperature falls to 0 C.

Freezing rain is expected to begin falling Thursday morning with a possible 5-10 mm of ice accumulation.

Take heart though. Temperatures are expected to rise Thursday afternoon and that will mean the freezing rain changes to rain.

"There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic," Environment Canada's warning says and ice build-up could cause tree branches to break. Utility outages are also possible, the statement says.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday it was 3 C in the city.
