Good morning and happy Friday!

Make sure to grab your umbrella as you head out the door, rain is in the forecast for this afternoon. But on the bright side, the fact that it's rain and not snow means we'll get a reprieve from the recent bitterly cold weather.

As of 5:30 a.m. it was -1 C in Toronto under cloudy skies. Periods of rain are expected to begin this afternoon with a daytime high of 5 C.

That rain is forecast to continue tonight, eventually petering out after midnight. The overnight low will stay above freezing at 1 C.

Flurries or rain showers for weekend

Today's mild temperatures won't disappear completely for your weekend — at least not initially. The daytime high tomorrow will be 0 C but you'll have to get up in the morning to feel it.

The temperature is supposed to drop to -2 C by tomorrow afternoon. Mainly cloudy skies are in the forecast for Saturday with a 60 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers in the morning, depending on when the temperature drops.

Sunday will be colder, the daytime high is only expected to reach -5 C with a 60 per cent chance of flurries.
