Toronto mom now faces murder charge in daughter's death
A Toronto mother accused in her daughter's death now faces an upgraded charge of first-degree murder.
Police say they laid the new charge this morning and Ali is expected to appear in court sometime today.
The teen died in hospital in February 2011, two days after police investigating reports of trouble found her without vital signs in an east-end home.
The cause of death has not been released.
Police say the case was initially reported as a home invasion but they later arrested and charged Ali.
She is also charged with criminal negligence causing death, failing to provide the necessities of life, attempting to obstruct justice, public mischief and two counts of fabricating evidence.
