A Toronto teenager has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a four-year-old boy in
Bowmanville last summer.

Police say the 16-year-old — who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act — was arrested Thursday without incident.

The case began Aug. 28, 2013, when police and paramedics were called to a home where they found Vidal without vital signs. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Police had said at the time of his death, the boy was being cared for at the home of a family friend.

A post-mortem investigation determined the boy died of blunt-force trauma.

Last month 35-year-old Tanya Berlass of Toronto was charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.

Police say Vidal was in Berlass's care when the boy died.

Police say they don't expect any further arrests in the investigation.
