Teenagers arrested in suspected arson in Leslieville
Four boys and one girl charged, all between ages 14 and 16
Four boys and one girl have been arrested after a fire on Minto Street was deemed an arson by police.
All the suspects are between 14 and 16 years old.
On Thursday morning, a fire started at several homes under renovation on the Leslieville street. Neighbours reported seeing young people on the street before the fire. Firefighters were called to the scene just before 3 a.m.
Police now allege that the five teenagers broke into a home under renovation, stole power tools and other items and then set fire to the home.
They all face the following charges:
- Arson endangering life.
- Breaking and entering.
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The identities of the suspects cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
One man in his 80s had to be rescued from a home adjacent to the unit where the fire is believed to have started.
There are no reports of injuries but two of the homes were completely destroyed. An adjacent house also suffered major damage. The fire was brought under control by firefighters by about 5 a.m.
