Lights back on after 30-hour power outage in east end

Hundreds of people were without power for more than 20 hours after an outage affected at least 10 apartment buildings near Don Mills and Eglinton.
Power is being restored for hundreds of people in the city's east end after an outage that lasted more than 30 hours.
The power outage began at around 3 p.m. Friday near Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto Hydro told CBC News. It affected at least 10 apartment buildings in the city's Thorncliffe neighbourhood.
Hydro spokesperson Tanya Bruckmueller said faulty equipment is to blame.
Crews installed new equipment in the area Saturday evening, according to Toronto Hydro's Twitter page.
Residents in all but three buildings had their power restored by 11 p.m., the company said, with remaining customers to get power back by 2 a.m. Sunday.
Residents can apply for compensation for things like spoiled food or a hotel stay if they were disadvantaged by a prolonged outage.
